Located in Taiwan Kaohsiung City at Dashu District, The Buddha Memorial Center, which is affiliated with Fo Guang Shan, one of the Taiwan’s largest Buddhist organizations. Covering more than 100 hectares, the Buddha Memorial Center faces east and is built along a central axial line. It consists of a Welcoming hall, eight Chinese-styled pagodas that stand for the Noble Eightfold Path, photo terrace, Bodhi square, Memorial hall, four stupas that symbolize the four noble truths and the Fo Guang Buddha.

Zhongshan Hall was built in 1928; it has long served as one of the important formal venues for foreign dignitaries, including the US president Richard Nixon, president of South Korea Syngman Rhee, etc. Furthermore, it is also the venue of many official ceremonies, including the signing of the Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty and the formal inauguration ceremonies of the second, third and fourth presidents of Republic of China. In recognition of the distinctive historic significance of this institution, the government of Taiwan formally designated Zhongshan Hall a Class Two National Historical Site in 1992.
