JAPAN: Having recently reopened after a refurbishment, the planetarium at Japan’s Yokkaichi Municipal Museum now welcomes guests with a visual display from its state-of-the-art 8K triple head hybrid projection system. Accompanying the visual spectacle is a selection of audio soundscapes. A TiMax2 SoundHub matrix was installed to provide real-time, cue-based timecode synchronisation between the planetarium’s multichannel audio system and visual content. The matrix was supplied by Outboard’s Japanese distributor, SC Alliance, working alongside the designer and installer GOTO Inc.

The TiMax2 SoundHub controls the audio routing from a small 24-channel mixing console and TASCAM 8-channel recorder, distributing between both wired and wireless microphones connected to the mixer, a CD player, SD card reader and the TASCAM recorder.

‘We are very pleased to see such a prestigious installation featuring TiMax SoundHub,’ enthused SC Alliance Inc’s sales director. ‘The supervisor of the sound system is very happy with the results. Customers and staff have commented on the effectiveness of the soundscapes, which are designed to immerse listeners into the environment of space.’

The TiMax2 also controls the audio output via a custom controller to 13 d&b Max12 loudspeakers and seven amplifiers, two d&b subwoofers, a single Meyer Sound 650P subwoofer and a total of 44 small under-floor speakers for sound effects. ‘The audience looks very satisfied after the show so we feel the installation is a great success and will ensure many customers continue to visit,’the spokesperson added.
