  • d&b launches weather protected E4 and E5 loudspeakers

    2012-01-13
  • d&b has added to its E-Series speaker range. The ‘lightweight’ E4 and E5 are two-way passive loudspeakers intended for theatres, conferences, industrial presentations and broadcast studios, and as surround sound, delay and fill systems.

Size-wise, the new additions are smaller than the recently launched E6, and employ a four inch and five inch LF driver, respectively, and a coaxially mounted wide dispersion dome tweeter. Weighing 1.1kg and 2.2kg, the E4 and E5 produce a maximum SPL of 115dB and 117dB respectively. They can be powered by either the d&bD6 or D12 amplifiers, and up to four cabinets may be driven by each channel of either amplifier.

The E4 and E5 are also suitable for temporary outdoor use due to being ‘weather protected’, and are available to order with special colour options. Both speakers are mounted in compact enclosures and reportedly offer wide symmetrical dispersion patterns in the horizontal and vertical plane, while the cabinets may be mounted in either attitude. They have built-in passive crossover networks with a frequency response extending from 130Hz to 20kHz for the E4, and 85Hz to 20kHz for the E5.

A rigid metal grill protects the front of the loudspeakers, and an M10 threaded insert is incorporated into the rear panel to accept a ball joint adapter, two NL4 connectors, and a two-pole push terminal.

Firmware and software updates for the E4 and E5 are available for download from the manufacturer’s website. (www.dbaudio.com)
