Renowned Hong Kong musician Harry Ng presented two concerts of "Harry Ng's Concert of Musical Innovations" at Star Hall, KITEC on October 16 and 17.

The d&b KSL system, serving as the main sound reinforcement for the concerts, enabled greater creative freedom in audio design through its exceptional "full-range directivity control capability," ultimately delivering a unique and immersive listening experience.

The concert boasted an impressive lineup of guests, featuring singers from different eras and over twenty performing artists. The stellar roster included Vincy Chan, Stephanie Cheng, Timmy Tu, James Ng, J.Arie, Louis Yuen, Alan Po, Judas Law, Yumi Chung, Archie Sin, Feanna Wong, Wai Hong Liu, Mimi Lo, Sukie Shek, Sabrina Lam, Steven Hoi, Elaine Ho, Alpha Au, CY Chan, EO2, and many more. These artists took the stage in succession, creating one highlight after another. The spectacular stage performances generated waves of excitement in the venue, leaving every audience member with profound memories and heartfelt emotions.

The concert's sound reinforcement system utilized world-renowned audio brand d&b audiotechnik, with the project undertaken by A.H.M. Engineering Co., Ltd.

The venue layout for this performance featured a unique rectangular configuration for both the audience areas and the stage—an uncommon arrangement in live sound design. With varying distances between the stage and audience sections on all four sides (east, south, west, and north), the technical team customized the sound system to ensure uniform 360° coverage across this "four-sided" audience layout. Specifically, eight groups of KSL arrays were deployed as the main PA system, meticulously positioned to deliver consistent and high-fidelity sound to every seat, offering audiences an exceptional audio experience.

For the four-sided stage setup, two main PA arrays were flown at each side of the stage.

    • South & North Sections:

Given the narrower and closer audience seating in these areas, each array consisted of 6 KSL8 enclosures.

    • East & West Sections:

To accommodate the wider and deeper audience areas:

    • East side arrays used 8 KSL8 + 2 KSL12

    • West side arrays used 6 KSL8 + 2 KSL12

This asymmetric configuration addressed the varying audience distances and coverage requirements.

To further enhance low-frequency extension, additional subwoofer arrays were strategically deployed on the eastern and western sides of the stage, which required broader coverage. Each side featured a set of three SL-SUB cabinets arranged in a linear array at the stage front. This configuration delivered highly accurate low-frequency reproduction to the target audience areas while effectively minimizing energy dispersion in non-essential zones.

Twelve Y7P compact loudspeakers were strategically positioned around the four sides of the stage, serving as front-fill systems arranged evenly along the front edge of each stage section. Thanks to their compact construction and versatile design, the Y7P delivers exceptional speech clarity, balanced tonal characteristics, and strong feedback suppression—ensuring consistent and intelligible coverage for audience members in the critical front-row areas.

All d&b loudspeakers were powered by 23 high-performance D80 amplifiers, ensuring stable and reliable operation. The system utilized four DS10 Audio Network Bridges to transmit AES3 digital audio signals to the d&b amplifier network, with comprehensive monitoring and control managed through the R1 Remote control software.

The entire system's loudspeaker layout was meticulously designed using d&b ArrayCalc simulation software to account for the unique audience distribution. Through precise calculation, analysis, and modeling, the system achieved optimal coverage accuracy while minimizing strong reflections caused by "ineffective coverage" and reducing acoustic interference to the greatest extent.

The two-night "Harry Ng's Concert of Musical Innovations" captivated even the most discerning music lovers, filling them with a warmth that was both radiant and energizing.

The d&b sound reinforcement system far exceeded expectations in both output capability and sound quality within the venue, demonstrating its capacity to fully meet the acoustic demands of any space and event type.
